Aka – the bike.
After some research and a lot of internal debating, I’ve decided to leave my trusted Buell XB12R Firebolt at home. Apparently the last few hundred miles to Deadhorse are on a gravel road that would not be very sportbike friendly. Plus, I may want to leave the bike in Alaska and sell it rather than ship it back. So after consulting my local Craigslist, I was able to find a good deal on a 2005 Kawasaki KLR650. I’ve never had anything resembling a dirt bike before, so this is definitely an experience. I’ve spent the last several days tightening bolts and giving it a thorough checkup.
The bike is mostly stock, but here’s what I’ve added on:
- Two additional high beam headlights
- Front fork spacers for added preload
- Cruise control
- 12V aux power (cigarette lighter)
- Compass, clock, thermometer
- Continental TrailAttack tires
- Handlebar brush guards
- Rear trunk
- Cortech Sport Saddle Bags
- KLR650.com Tank Bag
I have trip envy. How fun!
