Day Six – Jared Kuper and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

Bad news, the bike will be too much work to get ready in any reasonable time frame to finish the trip.

Good news, I’m too stubborn to quit. I’m going bike shopping. That’s why I’m calling this Day Six of the trip, even though I’m not actually riding anywhere.

Bad news, new bikes cost a lot of money that I don’t have.

Good news, there are several decent bikes on craigslist, I found one I like, and put a down payment on it. I plan to pick it up as soon as my cashier’s check comes from the bank. It should be even better than the last one.

Bad news, it still costs a lot of money, more than the last bike.

Ok, that’s really all the trip updates I have, but I am going to use the rest of this blog entry to bitch and whine about fate and crap like that.

Ok, so far things are looking ok. Time to head back to this house so I can get my chakras re-aligned. As I pull up to the house, I see water running off my front porch. Which is odd, because I don’t have any sprinklers on my front porch. I go around the back to the garage, and also have water running out of the garage.

Not a good sign.

The five days that I’ve been gone have just happened to be the five days that my room mate was out of the country, which were also the five days that my water heater decided to give up and spew water all over my house. Since the last people to install the water heater screwed up, and since the builder screwed up, the water ran into the house, instead of just the garage floor.

Luckily I have mostly tile in the main areas of the house, but both smaller bedrooms were inundated. The carpet padding is in the trash can, the carpet is drying out on the lawn, I have rented floor fans everywhere, and I’m now REALLY starting to get closer to the “broke” range of unemployed.

Fun times.

Special thanks to my Dad for saving my butt and helping me with everything. Special thanks to my room mate for being understanding and not freaking out.

I’d like to take this moment to let everyone know that I am good friends with an Armstrong flooring dealer, and I recommend tile for every floor on the planet.

Now I just gotta figure out how to get all the carpet back together, plus all the other stuff I need to do before Round 2 of Man vs. Road.
